The pain from the potion shook her body for a moment then subsided. She relaxed against him, her head on his chest.

"Better now?" he whispered into her hair.

She nodded, not trusting her voice as her body calmed.

After a moment of standing in his arms, she said, "You should have told me."

"Would you have gone through with it if I did?"

"Yes. You underestimate me."

He laughed. "Never. Never." She felt him press his lips to her hair.

With a sigh she pulled away, saying, "Well, let's look already."

His familiar features stared back at her, unchanged.

Hermione walked into the restroom, fearing the face that would be looking back at her. She could feel Severus following her and felt comforted by his mere presence.

Avoiding the mirror, she looked around the small restroom. It was tidy, but not perfectly clean.

"Look in the mirror, Hermione," he whispered suddenly, his fingers reaching out and lightly moving her chin she was looked directly into their reflection.

She gasped aloud at the image. "Wow. It worked."

"You doubted me?"

"Never," she whispered, looking into his familiar onyx eyes. But his eyes were the only familiar thing in the reflection.

"Hermione, you can still go back," he said softly behind her.

A blond woman glared with annoyance at the man standing behind her.

Hermione didn't feel like she was the woman though. Her hair was straight blonde and her eyes were a clear blue. Her facial features were striking and elegant.

The man standing behind her didn't look like Severus. To Hermione, he was not handsome. He had short chestnut brown hair and a long face with prominent cheekbones and a straight nose.

"I'm not going back."

The man sighed. "Then you'll have to come all the way with me."

Hermione turned around to face the man, glad that Severus was staring back at her.

To each other they looked the same, but to everyone else, and in reflections, they looked like the other two people. Altering their appearances by magic was the perfect disguise.

"Where are you going exactly?"

"Searching for Altair."

"You're going for the man that trying to kill you?" Hermione found that she wasn't shocked, merely curious.

"Yes I am. Or else I'll be running away all my life."

"We are runaways now…"

"This is different."

"Because we are together?"

"Because I'm going after him now."

Hermione looked at him as if she was trying to decide what to say. "Severus…" she started finally.

"Yes?"

She wrapped her arms around his waist and pulled him close. "I'm going with you. You know that right?"

He dropped his chin on the top of her head and held her. "I know."

She didn't move from his arms when she asked, "What's the first step?"

"Leaving here. Searching through his last known whereabouts."

"Where was that?"

"Ireland."

She sighed softly. "To Ireland then."

"Are you—"

"Severus, shut up." She leaned up and kissed him, cutting off his question.

This kind of disguise reminds me of the series "Charmed", in which the Halliwell sisters used such a trick to remain anonymous. It's a very clever disguise. More to come, I guess (and hope)?

So tender, and there's something gritty about it.
