Hermione looked in the mirror and smiled with satisfaction. She looked perfect. Everything was in place. And he was waiting downstairs. For her.
He was waiting for her and her only.
She descended the stairs with as much grace and poise as she processed in her body. When she reached the bottom of the staircase she saw that he had his back turned to her and looked thoughtful. She stared at his back, relishing momentarily, before clearing her throat quietly.
Severus turned around to see her and looked surprised when he saw who it was.
"Where's Hermione?" he asked seriously.

"Right here," she said mysteriously. She walked to him and slid her arms around his neck.
He grabbed her arms and removed them from around his neck forcefully. He easily put distance between them. "Narcissa, where is Hermione?" he asked again. He looked like he was getting frustrated.
She stepped closer to him again and leaned on her tiptoes. "Severus, it's me. Hermione," she whispered in his ear. She smiled up at him. She loved the look of surprise on his face at her words.
"What? How? Why?" The questions tumbled out of his mouth in an almost frantic pace.

"Polyjuice." She smiled proudly at him.
He looked back at her with an expression of confusion and surprise. "Why?"
"Why? Because you said you wouldn't get serious with any student of yours. Even former."
"Yes..." he agreed slowly. He was regarding her with a look of distrust.
"I'm no longer a former student of yours."
He looked at her and shook his head. He laughed cruelly before explaining. "Miss Granger, you are still a former student of mine. Polyjuice potion, and any appearance you take on because of it, will not change that in the slightest. I have to go."

He looked back to her. "Miss Granger, this is ridiculous."
"No, it's not. It's... attraction. It's... lust. It's... not ridiculous." Hermione looked at him. "Please don't go."
"Why should I stay?"
"Stay with me."
"No."
"Pretend I'm Narcissa for the night."
"You may look like her, but you will never be her."
Tears welled up in Hermione's eyes. "Don't reject me."
"Technically I'm rejecting Narcissa."
"No! This is me! You are rejecting me."
"Miss Granger..."
"Just stay with me."

"Because you want to."
"I don't want to."
"Pretend I'm actually Narcissa! Don't you want to stay with her?"
"I don't want to stay with her either."
"What?" Hermione asked, confused. "Who do you want to stay with?"
"There is one woman. But I can't stay with her."
"Why not?"
"She's a former student. She's standing in front of me in Narcissa's skin."
"No, Severus, I'm still me. Hermione."
He leaned forward and kissed her on the forehead. "Tell me when you're actually Hermione again."
