Summary: Saya awakens in Kai's house - but to everyone shock, she remembers everything and everyone.
It was like a something had shocked her. The jolt of waking up after so long made tears go to her eyes unbidden. She sat straight up, feeling more awake than she should have. Immediately, Saya took in her surroundings. She was in a bedroom. An unfamiliar bedroom. On the wall just be the normal brown door was a picture. It was of her family: her father, George, her brothers Riku and Kia, and herself. They were all smiling happy. Underneath the frame hung the words: "Never Forget."
It was all it took. Without looking around more, she pushed off the blanket covering her and ran down out of the room. Her throat felt raw and parched, or else she would be screaming now. She went down a set of stairs to find herself in a small hallway that led to a kitchen. In the kitchen, she could see Kai and two unfamiliar women. She didn't know who they were, but something sparked in her memory. They had to be Riku and Diva's daughters. There was no question that the woman were beautiful and happy, and now realizing who they were, Saya noticed their age. They were old about sixteen. But that couldn't be right. She had to have slept for 30 years.
Slowly, deliberating now causing any noise, she went into the kitchen. The smell of food made her stomach growl and the women's eyes turned to her abruptly. "Saya?" one of them croaked. The other reminded silent, just staring at her like she was a freak. But there was something else in her unmoving eyes. Something that Saya couldn't put her finger on.
Kai swung around a moment later. "Saya!" he yelled happily, jumping to his feet and rushing to her. His arms around her in a hug before she could stop him. Time passed slowly then, prolonging the moment so she could regain her ground. "Saya! You haven't been asleep... Not as long as you should have!" he exclaimed, finally pulling away.
It was only then that Saya noticed that he had aged. It was obvious that he was Kai, but he had wrinkles around his eyes now. He had grown older. Without having to look in the mirror, Saya knew she hadn't. It was a curse - being a Queen who didn't age. She scanned the room, finding the source of the aroma and finally said, "Is it dinner time?" Her voice was raspy and cold, cracking under being used after so long.
One of the women nodded, slowly. She was the one that had spoken, Saya knew. She went to the counter, pulling out another plate from the cupboard and placed it on the stack. "We have both than enough. We always have more than enough."
Something in her tone made Saya feel guilty. Saya's eyes flashed to Kai, but he wasn't looking at her. Instead he directed his words to the other girl - the silent one. "Get Saya some water. And tea."
"I'll call Moa and Okamura. They will want to know."
"Moa and Okamura," Saya echoed, feeling strange. They were together somewhere. But where?
Kai turned back to Saya. "They won't be able to come for a few days. They are in the Middle East so Okamura can do some stories or something." He shrugged, seeming unperturbed that his friend - who Saya knew had had feelings for him in the past - was off in another country with some jaded, chain-smoking reporter. Maybe he had just accepted it before. Suddenly Kai's eyes narrowed, his voice shifting. "You remember them?"
Saya nodded. "I remember everyone this time. I don't know why."
"Must be because Diva is gone," one of the twin's spoke up. Saya took great comfort in knowing that the girl spoke of Diva like she was nothing, not her mother. "Or maybe you are still tired and after a little while will fall back asleep. It's only been... seventeen years. So much have happened though." The girl looked at Kia, she looked so scared now that Saya couldn't believe the change of emotion. The shifting tension in the room made Saya feel weak and tired. She couldn't keep up. "Dad, does Saya's awakening mean something is going to happen now?"
Dad. Kai was their dad. Saya turned to Kai, wanting to thank him. But the words didn't leave her mouth. He answered the girl before she could speak up.
"No. You two are safe. You all three are safe," he said, nodding toward Saya when he included her. "Maybe she didn't sleep as long before it's all over now. You all three will live a normal life."
The words forced Saya back to the concert hall, when he had pleaded with her to not kill herself and the twins - only babies then - and promised to protect them. He had followed through. Everything he had promised and said that night had came true.
The silent girl came back into the room. "I called them. They are going to be on the first plane here. And they are bringing their daughter."
Kia nodded.
"They have a daughter?" Saya croaked out as the other twin handed her a glass of water.
Kia laughed. "Oh yes. Moa's pregnant again too. They got married about two years after they left."
"But he's so much older than her!" Saya protested, drinking the whole glass of water. The twin took the empty glass, and forced another in her hand.
"Drink," she insisted. Her eyes were kind, and Saya did was she was told to.
Kai shrugged. "You can't help who you fall in love with."
One of the twins laughed suddenly. "But Okamura tried to!"
Kai cracked a smile at the girl. "Haji is coming. Back another place."
The silent twin narrowed her eyes in confusion. "He's not here, Kai. Just because Saya woke up--"
"He'll be here," Kai repeated, in a voice that was remarkably like an authority figure. The girl didn't protest again.
The doorbell rang a moment later, echoing through the house. Kia grinned. "Told you," he mumbled as he moved out of the kitchen to answer the door.
Saya looked at the girls. She couldn't help but notice their resemblance to herself and Diva. But they were more like her. They had kind dark eyes, expressions that were happy and content.
Kai led Haji didn't the silent kitchen. "You can talk you know," Kai reprimanded gently, rolling his eyes. Saya took the time to drink her water, easing her strained throat.
"Hello Saya," Haji said in his polite voice. Saya couldn't help herself, she set down her empty glass and threw her arms around him. His hand went back to absently stroke the back of her head as she buried her face in his shoulder, breathing in his scent and soaking in the feel of him. He was so familiar. He hadn't aged. He hadn't changed. "I knew you'd be here," he whispered to her.
"Haji," she whispered. Only when her voice crack did she realize that she was crying. "Oh Haji."
He embraced her harder for a moment before pulling back. Without hestitation, he leaned forward and brushed his lips against hers in a soft kiss. "Welcome home," he whispered.
"Have - have you been here the whole time?" she asked, confused.
He shook his head. "I come back time to time to check on the girls and Kai, but I travel. I knew you'd be here this time though. I knew it."
Saya was glad to know that he was taking interest in the twins and Kai. Kai had taken a good care of the twins himself, but Haji was Haji. They had so much to discuss. He had disappeared after the last battle at the concert hall, and had feared she would never seen him again. But here he was. He was always there.
"I convinced Haji to let me move you into this place when I finally moved," Kai said suddenly, obliviously not liking the silence that had followed. "He didn't want me to move you from your resting place, but I couldn't stand to know you were so far away and that you might wake up by yourself. I had promised to take care of you..."
Saya smiled at her brother. The feeling of welcome and happiness only increased when one of the girls announced. "Now that we are all here. We need to eat. I'm starving."
Kai chuckled, walked to the table and pulled out a chair. He gestured for Saya to sit down. To sit down with her family. To a family dinner. At that moment, Saya didn't know whether she believe this to be a dream or real. She didn't care either. She was happy. She was home.
