Summary: Haji was the flower between the cracks of cement in Saya's life.

Haji had an old-time elegance about him. Saya noticed it once she found out who he was. It was like she'd always known that he wasn't an enemy. He didn't radiate an air of danger; he radiated friendship and love.

But as the memories rushed back during their time together, Saya felt guilty. If only she hadn't accidentally made him her Chevalier. If only she hadn't been so stupid. If only she hadn't care for him enough to try to save his life. She only stole his life anyway.

She cursed him to eternal wandering. Saya herself could sleep for 30 years, but he was constantly awake, constantly stuck in the ever-changing world. He never got to rest.

"Hey, look over here!" Riku called from about ten feet away from Haji and Saya.

The three of them went out for a walk. The Red Shield seemed to think that Haji might be able to help Riku adjust to life as a Chevalier and Riku didn't want to spend any time away from Saya now. The increasing feeling of guilt only strengthened when Saya thought about what she had done. Kai had wanted her to do this – to save Riku's life by giving him her blood – but she knew that Kai didn't quite understand.

Saya had doomed Riku to a life of eternal wandering like she had Haji and he was just a child. She had been aware of what she was doing when she gave him her blood, but it didn't seem to matter anymore. What's done was done.

Saya turned to Riku and saw him holding up a flower. Though it was spring and flowers were a normal sight to see, Riku was always pointing to the ground. Between the cracks on the pavement, flowers were sprouting.

Saya woke up in a sweat. The dream had been a memory – a memory that happened over 30 years ago. She had slept for 30 years and awoken to a new world. One with Kai and Diva's daughters in it. They had been waiting for her. They loved her. The twins were perfect. They were not the monsters' their mother had been. Kai said he gave Ruki's blood in them to thank for it, but Saya knew it was his love – his blind and complete love for the two girls – that had stopped the girls from being monsters.

Saya closed her eyes, leaning her head back against the pillows. She wanted the dream back. She wanted Riku back. Haji had found her again just days after she woke up. She was so thankful he was alive when the memories of her life came back to her. Before she fell asleep 30 years ago, she had thought Haji was killed by the collapsing building.

But he lived.

She wanted the memory of Riku back. She wanted the little boy's innocence to return to her life. Instead she had to climb out of bed and face the world. Haji was just coming into her bedroom when she sat up.

"Saya, what's wrong?" he asked in his caring, steady voice laced with elegance. It was astounding how he could read her so easily.

"Nothing. I just had a dream of Riku."

Haji crossed the room easily, coming over to stand before her. Reaching down, he pulled Saya to her feet gently and leaned forward, pushing his lips against hers. "He's still with us. He, like the rest, live in our memories. He's alive in our memories."

Saya wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close and leaning up to kiss his neck. "I know that."

"Saya, I live for you. I live only because you live."

"I know," she whispered, feeling tears coming in her eyes. It was a curse, and she had cursed him. But still, he didn't care about that. He loved her. Whether it was the love of a Chevalier for his Queen or a man to a woman, she quite wasn't sure. But she didn’t care either. As long as Haji was by her side, she would never be alone.

She was almost glad she had cursed him.

Haji was the flower growing through the cracks of cement in her life.
