The lump in my throat made it hard for me to talk properly.
"Bella, you don't have to do this." Jacob's voice was deep and gruff yet gentle.
"Jacob, I do have to do this," I said pleadingly.
"I love you, though." He reached his warm hand out to touch my arm, but I flinched away as if I would be burned by the heat.
"I love Edward." Tears welled up in my eyes at the admission.
His hand hung in midair, making me back up to avoid the radiating heat.
"You don't have to."
"No," I whispered, "I do."

I didn't have doubt. Being in love left nothing to doubt. My life was his.
His golden eyes stared at me intently as I walked toward him, and I wondered if he knew what happened last night.
One night of heat couldn't destroy a bond. A bond I have with him before I knew him.
Once again I was thankful that he was unable to read my thoughts. I smiled at him, but he frowned when I reached him. Reaching out I tried to take his hands in mine, but he pulled back.
"No," he said in a pained whisper.

There were only five people present to witness the event. It may have seemed that they were trying to hide their celebration, but they weren't.
Their love, their bond, their marriage was their own. No one else needed to know.
She looked like a goddess to him in her pixie frame. He felt like a fool. He had insisted, despite himself, to dress in the wedding garb he would have worn had his life not been suspended to an unchanging state. She were a modern dress, but on her, it looked classic.
The image was etched in his mind forever.
