Title: Fragments VIII
Rating: G
Author's Notes: Another "fragment".

The world's colors were startling when you looked at it without filtered eyes.

It was like she was seeing the world for the first time. Its brilliant glory nearly left her breathless, knocking the air right out of her. Here, in nature untouched by man, it was perfect. The colors – contrasting when manufactured to be together – blended perfectly together. Pinks on green; a yellow sun in the blue sky streaked with white. It wasn't hard to see why the world was called "beautiful".

Leaving the urban sprawl behind was the best decision she had made, even if it was just for a few hours. She would be back in the city soon enough; for now she just wanted to enjoy herself.

And it took only a few moments to calm down to realize that there was no stress out here. Nature was a perfect mix of danger and safety. It wouldn't hurt her, unless she hurt it first. She had no interest of messing with the glorious landscape before her.

Animals rustled in the scrubs and trees, bringing a whole new meaning to "noise". Birds literally sang as they rested amidst the branches and trees, not the normal twittering that annoyed her back at home when they filtered through the sounds of cars and chattering.

Even the air seemed different. It was so…pure. Untouched by pollution, she wondered if it would soon be rejected by her body. She wondered how something so clean could exist in the same space – the endless sky – of the air that only seemed dirty now to her.

Unsure how long she had spent wrapped in nature's cool and enchanting embrace, she looked up at the sky. Suddenly it was like the sky had exploded in color. Every hue of pink and blue imaginable blended together in perfect harmony as the sun set behind the trees, disappearing the promising to return in the morning.

She wished she could stay out here forever and loose herself. It seemed endless, but the farther she wanted into the wild, the sooner she would reach another town, another city. She'd have to return to civilization soon enough, and it was a lot safer going back to her town. Her home, she knew. People didn't belong out here. They weren't safe no matter how she felt now.

Sighing heavily with disappointment and rejection, she turned home, away from the sun. It wasn't sad to go back. After only a few hours out here, the world had changed for her. She knew she'd seen her town – albeit her normally beloved town – different than she had. It was so polluted, too crowd with people, manufactured things, and noise. The noise would surely give her a headache after the peacefulness in the nature.

Seeing the faint lights of the outer limits of her city, she quickened her pace. Nature would always be there, but this was her home. The town and all its faulty qualities were all she knew, and all, if she were to admit it to herself, ever wanted to know.

Glancing over her shoulder, she knew, however, she would immerse herself in nature again. For a day, a few hours, or something. It made her see things in a new light and once that view of the world faded, she'd be back to regain it. She'd seek comfort in the known, but long to be out in the unknown.

Wasn't that the story of human existence in its simplest terms?

Your descriptions are just as interesting as your dialogue! I like the feeling here, the ambiguity of the subject. It can appeal to anyone (of the female persuasion). It's something everyone can relate to so at the same time it hints at something deeper, bigger than everyone.
