Ren was a broken woman. Akito knew that.
She was spiteful and hateful, full of resentment. She treated her only daughter with cruelty, jealous of her husband's love for Akito. But none of that matter now.
Akito was the God of the zodiac, respected and loved by all the Sohma's with the curse.
But she wasn't loved by her mother. That much was obvious.
When Ren realized Akito's feelings for Shigure, she made sure she spun her web of deceit around him. Using his feelings of betrayal over Akito sleeping with Kureno against him, she persuaded him into her bed.

He couldn't do that at all without turning into a cat.
A filthy, low cat.
She deserved better. Her light deserved a place to shine, and she couldn't shine as bright in his darkness.
