Title: Dust Beliefs
Words: circa 400
Rating: PG13
Characters/Pairings: Tom/Ginny

Prompt: "once upon a time" table
Summary: Ginny didn't believe in the stories anymore...
Ginny Weasley grew up hearing stories of frog princes, damsel-in-distress princesses, and true love that always began with the trite line "once upon a time" and ended with the cliché "happily ever after", but Ginny didn't believe in the stories anymore. She found out that they weren't true during her first year of Hogwarts. It only took one school year, nine months, to ruin all the idealistic views she had.
He had warped her mind, making her do things she never thought she'd do. She blacked out, not remembering her acts, but somehow knowing it was her. It was as if a small part of her was awake during her lost of consciousnesses. There was a small part of her soul still awake, too strong to resist his control, but too weak to resist the power completely.
He was such a good listener, wrapping her around his invisible finger easily. She opened up readily, loving the idea of having a secret friend who knew all, but never judged. He listened, wrote back, and comforted her. She felt he understood her, like he cared about her.
But he didn't.
He used her.
Ginny was merely a toy to him. All the words, the secrets, the comfort, the understanding – it was all a lie. He never cared about her. He thought she was a pathetic child with pretty problems. Then he used the words against her, throwing them back at her, and easily making her feel guilty for her secrets. He knew that she had a longing for friendship, and threw it back at her, like it was a game for him.
It was only a game to him.
But to her, he was a secret friend. Someone she confined in. He posed as someone else. Creating an elaborate persona to be when he was around her, but always lying. Only lying.
Once his lies turned to lies to her, finally, she decided to get rid of his connection to her. But he wouldn't leave her. He seemed to come back.
It wasn't until later, when all her idealistic beliefs had turned into dust and lies, that she found out who he he really was.
She was just another pawn in Tom Riddle's vast game of deceit. Just a little toy that meant less than nothing to him. Tom Riddle felt nothing for anyone. He was a soulless being.

And they didn't live happily ever after…
