Yuki's eyes met Machi's over the dinner table. He wanted to say something; it felt like he always wanted to say something
Reaching for the bowl of rice that was sitting in the middle of the table simultaneously, Machi and Yuki's hands brushed each other. A moment later, Yuki's hand grabbed Machi's holding it there as their eyes remained locked.
She smiled shyly across the table at him and squeezed his hand.
I love our dinners, was the only thought that crossed Yuki's mind as he stood up. She followed suit, allowing him to pull her into a tight embrace.

Rin's stomach growled, but she refused to call the nurse in and demand dinner.
She glanced to the side, seeing Haru dozing off beside her. He had been there all day. She had tried to get him to leave, but after all they had been through, he had refused. "I love you," he said, a stubborn look in his eyes.
"Dinner time!" a nurse said, carrying in a tray of hospital food.
Rin glanced at the food, her stomach rolling in response to the smell. After the nurse left, she said, "Haru-chan, can I get something edible?"
He just grinned.

The summer ended too quickly. The family's curse was broken and the bond between the Sohmas had vanished, but they were still there. The fact they were still a family had never changed.
Kyo and Yuki hadn't ceased fighting, but the sadness, the cursed feeling, of the family was finally gone.
Summer had held many things for the family Tohru now felt like she belonged to. It had held freedom and love. A chance at love, at least. Summer also held a goodbye. The family had had willingly said goodbye to their fate.
Summer had been a season of adjustment.
